Nowhere to Run

UNKLE

UNKLE is James Lavelle's long-running project — a vehicle for collaboration bringing together Thom Yorke, Richard Ashcroft, Ian Brown, Mark Lanegan, and many others. Never, Never, Land (2003) marked a shift from the trip-hop of the debut toward something more expansive and rock-influenced.

Nowhere to Run features Josh Homme (Queens of the Stone Age) on vocals — a pairing emphasizing the harder edge of the album, electronic production combined with live rock energy in ways the earlier UNKLE material hadn't attempted.

UNKLE's catalog is undervalued partly because it resists genre definition — too rock for dance music audiences, too electronic for rock audiences. Never, Never, Land most successfully navigates that tension.

"UNKLE make music that falls through the gap between categories."
