Myth of Degenerate Art

The Liturgists began as a podcast and creative community — Michael Gungor and Science Mike McHargue building a space for people navigating faith, doubt, and deconstruction. Their music occupies the intersection of worship, ambient, and spoken word in ways that resist easy categorization.

Myth of Degenerate Art takes its title from the Nazi concept of Entartete Kunst — the 1937 exhibition of art deemed degenerate — and reframes it as celebration: the art condemned as degenerate is often the art most worth preserving.

The Liturgists' work occupies a genuinely unusual space — devotional music made by and for people whose devotion is complicated by doubt.
