Skeleton Kids

The Mescaline Babies

The Mescaline Babies formed in Rome in 2009 from the collaboration of Sydney Mars and Kalle Darkal. Drawing on Bauhaus, Christian Death, and the batcave/deathrock tradition, they built a sound that was simultaneously nostalgic and immediate.

Skeleton Kids, from their 2012 debut Crush, addresses the Holocaust with directness unusual even for a genre not known for avoiding difficult subjects — the "Kids of Birkenau" refrain placing the song in the specific horror of the death camps, the deathrock production amplifying rather than distancing the subject.

The Mescaline Babies occupy the international deathrock underground — a scene that remains active and interconnected across European cities.

"The Mescaline Babies make music that understands what goth was originally for."
