Fingerprince (Full Album)

The Residents

Fingerprince is The Residents during their most theoretically ambitious period — the mid-to-late 1970s, when they were producing records that engaged directly with the history of recorded music and the conventions of pop form, dismantling them and reassembling the pieces into something genuinely unsettling.

The album includes their famous deconstruction of "Satisfaction" restructured into something nearly unrecognizable — a demonstration of how thoroughly they had internalized the pop form in order to destroy it.

Presenting a full album as a Song of the Day entry for the second time this archive — the first being Lunar Dunes — is a consistent editorial position: some records must be heard whole. Fingerprince is emphatically one of them.

"The Residents on Fingerprince are at their most theoretically rigorous, which is saying something."
